Week Ahead | COVID-19 Numbers, Geopolitics and June PMIs in Focus

Monday

  • CNY- PBoC Interest Rate Decision
  • CAD BoC's Governor Macklem speech

The PBoC Interest Rate Decision is announced by the People´s Bank of China. If the PBoC is hawkish about the inflationary outlook of the economy and rises the interest rates it is positive, or bullish, for the CNY. Followed by the governor of Canada will be giving out a statement on monetary policies and Economic forecast.

 

Tuesday

  • EUR Markit Manufacturing PMI ; Markit PMI Composite
  • GBP Markit Services PMI

Markit economics captures business conditions in the manufacturing sector. As the manufacturing sector dominates a large part of total GDP, the manufacturing PMI is an important indicator of business conditions and the overall economic condition in Germany.

Markit economics of EU Zone captures business conditions in the manufacturing sector. As the manufacturing sector dominates a large part of total GDP, the manufacturing PMI is an important indicator of business conditions and the overall economic condition in Europe.

The PMI service released by both the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply and the Markit Economics is an indicator of the economic situation in the UK services sector. It captures an overview of the condition of sales and employment. It is worth noting that the UK service sector does not influence, either positively or negatively, the GDP as much as the Manufacturing PMI does.

 

Wednesday

  • NZD RBNZ Interest Rate Decision           

RBNZ is likely to leave the OCR unchanged record low of 0.25% in June. Meanwhile, the size of the LSAP program (QE) will also stay at NZD 60B. Control of the coronavirus pandemic in the country has been more effective than previously anticipated. Policymakers will be more optimistic about domestic economic recovery than last month. However, as the second wave of outbreak is looming and New Zealand’s border remains largely closed, the central bank will remain vigilant and pledge to act more if needed.

ECB Monetary Policy Meeting Accounts contain an overview of financial market, economic and monetary developments. It's followed by a summary of the discussion, in an unattributed form, on the economic and monetary analyses and on the monetary policy stance.

The Initial Jobless Claims released by the US Department of Labor is a measure of the number of people filing first-time claims for state unemployment It provides a measure of strength in the labor market. A larger than expected number indicates weakness in this market which influences the strength and direction of the US economy.

The Gross Domestic Product Annualized released by the US Bureau of Economic Analysis shows the monetary value of all the goods, services and structures produced within a country in a given period of time. GDP Annualized is a gross measure of market activity because it indicates the pace at which a country's economy is growing or decreasing.                              

The Tokyo Consumer Price Index released by the Statistics Bureau is a measure of price movements obtained by comparison of the retail prices of a representative shopping basket of goods and services, excluding fresh food. The index captures inflation in Tokyo.

The Personal Income released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Department of Commerce measures the total income and this figure can provide insight on the US employment situation in US. Followed by personal spending which indicates the consumer strength of US Economy.
